Xmas in Milton Keynes & Silverstone lights

Milton Keynes like the rest of the UK goes all out for Christmas, the mall has a massive Christmas park installed with rides, Santa and giant decorations. Houses are decorated (including our neighbours) with lights and masses of inflatable characters. It’s lovely walking around in the cold afternoons (we are past the shortest day so it gets dark just after 3:30pm) looking at the lights.

It didn’t snow for Christmas Day, was 0C with a “feels like” of -5, so cold enough to not go outside – we’ve had snow one day while here. Early morning calls home done in bed then we got up and Steve made us amazing apple turnovers for breakfast. It was a two meal day, huge breakfast and huge dinner. Paul and Karen pulled out all the stops with the food, so much food and just so yummy. We did secret Santa (everyone got a game), watched Christmas movies and played games – so a lovely quiet day in our matching jumpers.

Boxing Day and Silverstone – we had a low key Boxing Day, watched Knives Out, played games, ate yummy leftovers then Karen casually said “lets go see some Christmas lights” so we all jumped in the car for a drive. They really had us fooled, Steve and I didn’t twig to where we were going until we were on the outskirts of the Silverstone village. We were doing a Christmas lights lap of the track!

The whole experience was pretty awesome, and what a treat to drive around the track and watch this light show. The drive was slow, we were soooo lucky to be first in the row for our 8pm timeslot with one car beside us and about 20 behind. We were a few yards behind the pace car going about 5mph so got a great look at everything. Paul dearly wanted to speed up of course. It was fun, the whole place was dolled up with lights, I especially loved the wall of water storage tanks with coloured light shining through them.

We had lots of calls with our wee Christmas present in Australia, can’t wait to meet her. Meri Kirihimete everyone.
