Kiwi Roaming

We had a lovely time in Italy and packed so much into 3 weeks – Sardinia and Puglia are both beautiful places to visit with wonderful beaches and fabulous food.

We left Gallipoli by bus to Lecce where we changed to a train, this one with good air-conditioning and it took a more direct route which wasn’t as bumpy. I do love these electric trains in Italy, they are clean and comfortable with excellent air conditioning. A quick 30 minutes to Brindisi where we found yet another station under construction with major works.

We decided this last day would be a travel and admin day so booked into the Ibis Styles for good wifi and some downtime in a hotel. It was a 20 minute walk from the station and luckily the forecast wind hadn’t yet whipped up so quite pleasant albeit very hot with our packs on – 32C.

After our welcome drinks in the reception / bar / everything space the staff kindly recommended a pizzeria about 10 minutes walk away for our dinner. As ever we ordered too much food but it was delicious and we managed to consume it all. We arrived about 8pm just after they opened and by 8:30pm the place was chocker with families going out on a Friday evening. A lovely atmosphere.

The part of Brindisi we were staying in was mixed business and residential, low rise buildings, with colourful apartment blocks and our very modern high-rise hotel also colourful amongst them. The footpaths have power / light poles in the middle of them making it very difficult to walk around (above pics).

Travel to the continent is cheap as but flying makes for a long day, we left our hotel before 9am and didn’t get to Milton Keynes until 6pm with a taxi, plane, train, tube, tube, train, bus journey. It was a stinking hot day in London and the tube especially was crazy, it was also a Saturday (4th) with Pride on, Harry Styles, Metallica, Maroon 5 and other events in the city loading up the transport system.
